Can We Take Aspirin Or Ibruprofen For Weak Palpitations Inspite Of Alcohol Consumption?

My husband has been alcohol dependent, for 20 years, half a bottle of husky and 4 beers, 5 days per week, but has, for the last four days drank more. He has joined AA, today is his first day going cold turkey. He is weak, palpitations etc. Can he take aspirin or ibruprofen? He is a builder and has his own company and going back to work tomorrow, which means physical as well as mental. Thank you for your help. He s in his 50 s and fit.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,
I read your query and it seems that your husband is having symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. In that case, taking aspirin and ibuprofen won't be actually helpful. alcohol withdrawal usually responds well to benzodiapines which must be tapered off in 7-10 days. You husband will also need thiamine supplements. I would advice you to contact a local psychiatrist for initiating treatment.
Best wishes.
