Can Stopping Birth Control Pills Delay Periods?

hi
I have a concern regarding my period, about 5-6 months ago I stopped taking birth control after 2 years on them, which during this time and even beforer birth control my period was always regular. The last 5 months after I stopped taking birth control I was getting my period a week or 2 late however this month its been 3 and a half weeks and still no period, I dont feel anything at all, mu life style did change, I started working out and my boy friend is away so no contact for about a month now. I took 4 pregnancy tests 2 a week after the period didnt show up and 2 tests two weeks after the period did not come. I am very worried because I also noticed cloudy urine during the last month.

Hi,

Withdrawal of birth control pills following normal menstruation, leads to rebound stimulation of ovulation and so pregnancy is possible and period can get delayed. But you did not get pregnancy test positive and irregular periods continue.

Such condition suggests some menstrual problem due to hormonal imbalance (you had it while on pills but withdrawal bleeding followed due to the pills). To find the cause (ovarian, thyroid, pituitary or PCOD) you need to get investigated Once cause is found, specific treatment would help you get your periods regular.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
