Can Smoking Weed Cause High T3 & T4 Levels In Blood?
Hi, My 18 year old son who smokes a lot of pot just had bloodwork that showed higher than normal t3 and t4 levels. I don't know for sure if he really told the doc about all his pot use. Could this blood work be messed up form too much weed in his system?
There is no evidence that cannabis interfares with thyroid function test, so it is unlikely that his high T3 nad T4 are due to pot smoking. But if hs TSH level is normal despite high T3 and T4 you need to get him tested one more time to confirm the current reports.

The t3 and t4 refers to a thyroid hormone usually. There really isn't a connection to marijuana or there would be hundreds of people lined up around the thyroid doctors' office every morning. Lab tests that are very slightly outside the normal range (and with other lab tests like the thyroid stimulating hormone... TSH being IN the normal range?) do not necessarily mean very much. The disorders in which there are elevated thyroid hormones tend to give really abnormal values, to also make the TSH abnormal and low, and to have a LOT of other symptoms. THe marijuana use can have other issues (mood changes, legal issues, possibly other mental changes, lung problems in a few people) but thyroid wouldn't be expected to be one of them
