Can Regular Intake Of Benadryl Cause Elevated ALT And AST Level?

I take a sip of wine to be social. I don t like the taste of alcohol and I have never tolerated alcohol. My friends don t like my non-drinking because they have to drink alone. So when doctors asked if I drank I just laughed. So alcohol, is not the reason for high ALT 113 AST 62 and GGT 74. Can Benadryl taken on a regular basis cause the elevated levels?

There can be many causes of elevated liver tests. Many medicines can do this. I am not aware of Benadryl in particular doing this, but I would still be doing some evaluation to find out why your tests are high. I think it is very important to be checked for chronic hepatitis, especially hepatitis C. This can be completely asymptomatic and yet over the years cause chronic liver damage which leads to cirrhosis. In fact, hepatitis C causes as much cirrhosis as alcohol. A fatty liver could also be causing the elevations. These possibilities should be investigated. Hepatitis C is curable, so if that is what is causing the elevations, you want to find out right away and get started on treatment before the damage is irreversible. Hope this helps.
