Can Potassium Cause Abnormal EKG?

what happens if I reduce my potassium chloride er 20 mg dosage to 10 mg dosage and I m taking 12.5 mg of hydrocholorathizide? I had an abnormal EKG and am suspicious that it could maybe be because of the potassium chloride. Can too much cause an abnormal EKG?

Radiologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

It may be due to altered potassium level in the blood.
Altered potassium level in the blood causes typical findings in ECG.
Hypokalemia include flattened or inverted T waves,U wave,ST depression and wide PR interval.
Whereas mild to moderate hyperkalemia causes reduction of the size of P wave and development of long T waves.Severe hyperkalemia results in a widening of the QRS complex and ECG complex can become sinusoidal in shape.

So,your condition need clinical examination and ECG co-relation.
You should consult cardiologist.

Hope i have answered your query.

Take Care
