Does Low Potassium Cause EKGs To Change?
I HAD AN EKG FOR PRE-SURGERY (CARPEL TUNNEL) CLEARANCE & WAS TOLD THE EKG SHOWS I HAD A HEART ATTACK. I HAVE A BICUSPID AORTIC VALVE, HAVE ECHO S EVERY OTHER YEAR THAT ARE OK, LAST ONE 2/2014. I HAD 24 HR HOLTER MONITOR (1/2015) WITH NO CONCERNS. COULD LOW POTASSIUM SHOW A FALSE EKG? I AM WAITING ON LABS, I VE HAD POTASSIUM ON THE LOWER SIDE BEFORE. I AM A WELL CONTROLLED TYPE 2 DIABETIC, 5 6 155 lbs, NEVER SMOKED, DON T USE ALCOHOL, TREADMILL 5 DAYS PER WEEK, ACTIVE AT WORK, WALK 10,000 STEPS PLUS PER DAY MEASURE BY A FITBIT. ANY COMMENTS?

I really appreciate your concern, EKG could show the old infraction even some left untreated, low potassium could show some changes if this is really have low value, if the EKG being done for surgical purpose then it need to be taken under consideration as long as the fitness is concern, for surgery, hope this information help, take care and have a nice day.
