Can Hypokalemia, Lead To Hard Stool Movements In Diabetics Males?

Hi, this is Akash. Am diabetic and am struggling for free motion. Other problem is sometimes am feeling tight, like sweating a lot and feeling uncomfortable, and also feeling like something packed and like unable to breathe. So my friends said that might be due to low potassium levels. Can I know why this is happening and what diet should I take? And is there any relation for motion free problem and low potassium level?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
First of all thank you for sharing your concern with us .
Hypokalemia can cause bloating , constipation , abdominal cramps . You should maintain a strict control on your diabetes and should maintain the HbA1c levels below 7 so that diabetes will not be able to show it's bad effects for which it's known for . I would suggest you to get tested for HbA1c every 3to 4 month , blood electrolytes , kidney function tests and discuss this issue further with your Healthcare providers .
For a better control on blood glucose it's very important to exercise 5 days a week , eat healthy food , sleep 7 hour daily , practice yoga / deep breathing exercise and take your prescribed medicines everyday as scheduled .
Your diet should be full of vegetables , low glycemic index food products , say no to simple sugars and include complex carbohydrate , can include white meat like chicken , fish and milk without sugar . Try to fix the timings of your meals and take meals everyday on same time . Avoid soft drinks which are high in sugar .
I wish you good health .
Best Regards,
Dr.S.Tomar
