Can G6pd Deficiency Cause Retinal Issues?

My nephew retina appears to lack the "red" color retina's are supposed to have. His doctor said some infants (he is 2 months) suffer from it and then it eventually goes away...but his abnormal and it might lead to blindness. He already has a g6pd deficiency so is there any possible way that could be related or the cause of this retina issue?
