Can Discontinuing Birth Control Pills Cause Issues?

Hi, I came off my pill two months ago as my partner and I are wanting to start a family. My period was slightly later than last month and its possibly the heaviest one I ve ever experienced, it s extremely painful, quite a few blood clots and flooding in the middle of the night. Additionally, as my period started I was feeling shakey, sick, felt really hot but my partner said to touch I felt cold. Is this normal or do I need to consult with my GP?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There might be some irregularities while wearing off from birth control pills. You have to do a urine routine to rule out urinary tract infection as the symptoms mimic UTI. As of now you can take paracetamol and antibiotics may be needed if urine routine shows presence of pus cells. Drink plenty of water also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
