Can Chronic Pancreatitis Be Permanently Cured?

I have been fighting chronic pancreatitis that has taken me through tylenol #3 then oxydodone and now morphine sulfate in increasing amounts. I have reached the conclusion that it will never go away and only continue to get worse. What can I expect in the future? Cancer and 5 months to live??

Hello,

Chronic pancreatitis is irreversible damage to the pancreas and as there is a lot of pain, it is managed with strong analgesic medicine. My advice to you is, as you have come a long way fighting this its absolutely normal to feel depressed and annoyed. But losing hope like this is something I always refrain my patients from doing.

There are different treatment modalities available for chronic pancreatitis depending on the underlying cause. Most important is managing the pain and your gastroenterologist is the best to understand and manage it well as he knows all the history related to the illness. The other treatment options apart from medicines are therapeutic endoscopy and surgery. You can always talk to your doctor about any doubt and get it cleared. He will suggest the best option as per your condition. When it comes to cure, its your doctor who can guide you better on this as he knows your condition better and he is choosing best treatment options for you from the different available options. So it depends on which treatment option is best for you because different patients respond in different way to a treatment depending on the underlying cause.

One thing I would like to mention, if you have strong will power, then you can beat anything. To manage the stress, I would suggest try meditating and stay positive towards the outcome. Hope this helps. Wish you better health.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
