Can An Arachnoid Cyst Cause Vertigo And Breathing Diffculty?

I am a 45 year old female. At 33, I was diagnosed with a 17 mm left middle cranial fossa arachnoid cyst (left sylvian fissure). The cyst has not grown over the years. For years I ve suffering from vertigo, ringing in my ears, poor balance, some difficulty breathing, and at times, difficulty swallowing. These symptoms come and go. I ve seen two neurologists but neither one has explained if my symptoms are because of the arachnoid cyst. Can you please give me your opinion on this? Also, does this type of arachnoid cyst grow over time? If I can live with the symptoms, is it better to do that instead of treating it? If I were to have it treated, what are my treatment options? Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Regards, Tania

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Arachnoid cyst causes vertigo, hearing and visual disturbance, difficulty with balance and walking. The need for treatment depends mostly upon the location and size of the cyst. If the cyst is small, not disturbing surrounding tissue, and not causing symptoms, some doctors will refrain from treatment. Now with microneurosurgical techniques and endoscopic tools that allow for minimally invasive surgery, more doctors are opting to surgically remove the membranes of the cyst or open the cyst so its fluid can drain into the cerebrospinal fluid and be absorbed. It can also grow over time. So it's better to treat and consult near by doctor.

Hope I have answered your query.
