Can A Pregnancy Test Be Negative But I Still Miss My Period?

Hi doctor, I am xyz, we have sex on 5th sep. though it was protected but i doubt his finger rubbed my vagina after ejaculation. So i took ipill after 5hours. My regular period date is 11th sep. But it is delayed. its 16th still i am not getting period or withdrawal bleeding. i am not facing any abnormalities. perfectly healthy. did home pregnancy test but it was negative. i am worried.. is the delay is normal or i am pregnant. i know the test is very early. Is the delay is cause of stress and tension. Or i am pregnant. I am having papaya daily but still i am not getting menses. My period is generally irregular.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood your concern. If the intercourse occurred during the safe or non-ovulatory phase of your cycle, you are naturally protected. Also, you have taken the emergency contraception within the stipulated time interval and this gives almost total protection. Since you have irregular cycles, it is difficult to predict the expected period exactly. The pill contains high hormone dose and hence delays a natural period by a week or two. Please get further help if you become overdue by ten days. You would then need a clinical assessment, a blood test for pregnancy and a pelvic sonogram and if negative, hormones will be prescribed to induce a period. Hope this helps.
