Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on Vyvanse for 5 month. This past time my dose was increased from 30mg to 50mg. I told the doctor 30 mg hasn t been helping. It takes 4 hours to start working and I needed a medicine to take that worked faster. He said he was going to impressed my dose to 50mg once a day. It s been two days on that dose. I have swelling in my feet, ankles and legs. I can barely walk It s so painful. Can this medicine have this side effect?
Based on the history you have shared, it can rarely cause such side effects due to smooth muscle relaxation but other causes with baseline uric acid levels as well as an echocardiogram to see ejection fraction might be needed.
Urinalysis to see for any signs of protienuria or serum albumin levels may be needed.
Renal function and liver enzymes may be needed if others are unremarkable. Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen along with keeping the feet higher than rest of the body on lying and decreasing the dose back to usual or stoping it may be helpful.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
