Can I Reduce Metformin Dosage As Sugar Level Has Come Down?

i have been on Metformin for 3 days 1000mg at dinner. My blood sugar was 287 when i first went to the doctor. Now it has gone down to 137 in the 3 day period. Should i take the full 2x500mg tabs or just on tonight (until i can see doctor? i feel my sugar go low if i take the full dose. is it ok to adjust?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

One of the reasons metformin is one the most widely used diabetic medications is that it does not cause low blood sugars.
It would cause your blood sugars to shift towards normal but would not cause hypoglycemia, you do not need to worry that it will do this to you.

The other reasons are: (1)it reduces the body's resistance to insulin and (2) it is weight neutral or in some persons helps with weight loss

You can continue to use it safely.
