Can I Be A Carrier Of Herpes?

My now ex-girlfriend has accused me of passing on herpes to her. I my self have never had an outbreak in my life and do not know how I gave the disease. Is it possible to me to have it even though I've never had an outbreak? Also is it possible for me to just have the disease like through genetics? And finally how can I prevent this from happening again?

Hello. Thank you writing to us at healthcaremagic

The only way Herpes Virus gets transmitted is through intimate direct contact (sexual or non-sexual).
The disease may be clinically silent and many of those who have the infection are unaware of it not knowing either, whom did they acquire it from.
Nevertheless, asymptomatic carriers may still pass on the infection to others through sexual contact.
Herpes genitalis clinically presents as painful, grouped, well defined, discrete erosions on or around the genital region.
In those who might be asymptomatic carriers it is possible to know the status by blood test for HSV antibodies against type 1&2 antibodies.
Therefore I would suggest you take up this test to resolve this doubt.
