Can Duphaston Be Taken For PCOD?

Hello Doctor,

I am having PCOD problem due to that my uterus lining is thin around 3.6. I have been prescribed Duphaston 10mg twice daily for 10 days starting from 16th day of the period.

I have gone through with the side effects on internet like weight gain, pale skin, rashes, vomiting and breast pain tenderness.

Please suggest would it be good to tale this medicine as I have also gone through with gallblader stone surgery 1.5 yrs back and this medicine also creates liver disfunctions as well..

Please suggest if it's fine to tale this medicine?

Thanks.

Absence of gall bladder per se is not a contraindication for taking Duphaston (dydrogesterone). If your liver function tests are normal, then Duphaston can be taken. Periodic monitoring of liver function test has to be done. All the other side effects that you have mentioned can occur with Duphaston but not necessarily in every patient who is on this medication.
So you can start taking Duphaston and constantly monitor for the changes in periods and any side effects. Next decision on alternative drugs or stopping the drug can only be taken after that. Hope this helps. Thank you.
