Can Azathioprine Usage Cause Cough, Build Up Phlegm And Choking?
I,ve had a cough for three weeks where a build up of flem comes at the back of my throat and I cough bring out the flem and then I start to choke and find it hard to get my breath back been to AE 4 times 4 times to my GP and that s where my GP said that I might have scarred lungs can you give me an idea at what it might be please i ve been on AZATHIOPRINE for about 11 years my GP said that these tablets can cause my problem it is very uncomfortable .

The problems that you have like flame at the back of the throat, feeling of choking, coughing and breathing difficulty needs clinical evaluation, to find out the possibility of stopping azithioprin and getting fully investigated to see the actual cause and effect and the possibility of better treatment.
I would advise you to consult the Pulmonologist for pulmonary function tests, CT scan of the chest, bronchoscopy and start treatment accordingly.
