Bloating, Over Sensitive Stomach After Intake Of Coffee, Wine, Occasional Tea. No Help From Vitamin B And Iron Supplements. Suggest

Coffee and wine and to a lesser extent tea cases my stomach to be over sensitive to many food and to become bloated. But these beverages alone don't seem to cause bloating. This started 3 years ago and now it is not as bad as the beginning after I started to take vitamin B and iron supplements but I still have the symptoms. I tried to. It down coffee but this is very difficult because I love it just a cup per day. Can you suggest what may be happening in my stomach and possibly how I could handle this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Coffee and wine may irritate the lining of the stomach in some people and may cause excessive acid production. If you are overweight / obese the symptoms may worsen. A probable diagnosis would be Irritable Bowel Syndrome / Non Ulcer Dyspepsia that is very common now. Do you have any history of lactose intolerance, peptic ulcer or problems of gall bladder and pancreas? Avoiding foods which specifically trigger is of paramount importance. Have you lost weight? Urea breath test, Liver function tests, Ultra sound of your abdomen, stool examination for ova and fecal elastase would be preferred. I hope a consultation with a Gastroenterologist will help to rule out these conditions. If it is irritable Bowel Syndrome mind relaxation exercises and yoga will help.
