Bloated feeling, cramping, nausea, headache, frequent urge to urinate, reddish brown discharge, negative pregnancy test. Had periods post unprotected sex. What is the reason for the symptoms?

Hi, I m 21 years old and I ve had unprotected sex about 3.5 weeks ago, but I had my period a few days after (I have been out of birth control for about 2 months now). Lately I have been bloated, cramping, nauseated, headaches , and i have to contantly have to go to the bathroom, and just a few days ago I found that my discharge had brownish redish discharge. Is this something i should be concerned about? is it normal? I have taken 3 pregnancy test and it all came out negative. Could I still possibly be pregnant?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

Given the timing of intercourse just before your period (when you are unlikely to be fertile) and the negative pregnancy tests (when I would expect them to be positive) I do not believe that you are pregnant.

But given your bloating, cramping, and urinary complaints you might have a bladder infection and this should be checked out at your doctors office.

At the same time, the discharge might just be related to bleeding from the uterus for other reasons (and often makes its way out as a darkish discharge). This should also be brought to the attention of your doctor. You should be evaluated for infection and you might need an ultrasound to take a closer look at the uterus.

I hope this helps and good luck!
