Atherosclerosis. Stents placed in mesenteric artery. Unable to walk post surgery. Treatment?

my mom is 81 years old and three days ago had twp stents placed in the mesenteric artery due to 100% blockage from atherosclerosis ...post procedure she did great..today however she can barely walk and is very weak. She did go out yesterday to do some shopping and walked around quite a bit. Could the weakness be from the procedure or is there something else going on? She is not complaining of any pain.

Dear patient,

After any surgical or interventional procedure in an elderly, recovery time may be slower, and weakness is more common. However, if there is progressive weakness or ambulatory limitations after a catheterization, that would not be normal, and should prompt further evaluation to make sure that a vascular occlusion/clot etc is not the cause of those symptoms. If things get better after resting from that long shopping walk, then it would be less concerning and recommendations would be to take it easier.

Yours truly,

My husband recently had a stent put in his RAC. He s working really hard to quit smoking. In fact, he hasn t smoked at all, but he has taken to using 3-4 SNUS a day (snuff packets). I m sure he will quit these soon too, but in the mean time we d like to know if smokeless tobacco contributes to atherosclerosis? We are certainly aware of the dangers of mouth, throat, and GI cancers and hypertension, but our direct question is concerning the arteries.
