Are Weight Gain And Passing Gas Related ?

I m a 21 year old female and have gained some weight recently. About 2 years ago I suffered from abnormal chest pains and was told they could be related to my stomach but I did not have further testing. I have not suffered from chest pains recently but I have noticed that I have started passing gas more so than usual. Can my weight gain be the cause of the increase of me passing gas? Or could it be a more serious issue relating to my stomach?
