Are Ultrasound Report Of Uterus A Cause For Concern?

Hi Doc,

I just got my ultrasound report for both transabdominally & endovaginally. They found normal ovaries and 12mm endometrium. but what worries me is "trace free fluid in the cul-de-sac". The reason I got ultrasound was for uterine bleeding from past 4-5 wks now.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

It is normal to find trace fluid in the cul de sac, an area behind the uterus. Up to 5 ml of fluid may be seen during ovulation and this is a sign of fertility in women of reproductive age group. Abnormally high amounts of fluid might signify pelvic infection. If trace amount has been mentioned then its presumed to be normal.
