Are There Any Chances Of HPV Virus Returning Again After Being Treated And Having Normal Pap Smears?

Hello Dr Lundi,
I have a question about the HPV virus strand that may cause cervical cancer. I read on Web MD you can rid of the virus from your system in two years. I once was diagnosed with the strand but now have all normal paps. After normal pap smears, is the strand now completely out of your system? Is this something you have to continue to explain to sexual partners?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

HPV infection need not always go for cervical cancer. Only there is likely chances.
Serotype 16 and 18 are more likely to go for malignant changes.Remaining strains are unlikely to go for malignancy and self limiting. Most often body immune system are able to eliminate the viral particles totally from the body after a year or two. You need not reveal these things to your sex partner if you did not have any symptom for more than two years.
