General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it is shingles. This is one of the more common causes of an itchy painful rash.

Shingles tends to recur.

You can use two mirrors to see if it has a typical shingles appearance or ask a friend or family member.

If it is very bothersome, your doctor may be able to prescribe an antiviral medication to help.

The shingles vaccine has been shown to reduce recurrences so you can ask your doctor about this option.

I hope this helps
