Are Elevated Levels Of AST And ALT A Cause For Concern?
I recently had lab work done- ALT 61 and AST 37---glocose 112.....I know i need to lose weight...working on it. eating whole wheat pasta and bread...no white rice, pasta, potatoes, sugar...take metaformin 1000 mg a day which has helped. should I be worried about high ALT and AST....my doc didn t mention it...I have a call into him...to see what he says..but wanted a second opinion. thanks..
Normal ALT level:21-72 IU/L______your level______61____normal Normal AST level:17-59 IU/L______your level______37____normal If you have did fasting blood glucose then 112 mg/dl suggests impaired fasting glycemia/prediabetics. If it is post meal then it is normal. You can go for HbA1c to know about the diabetes status.
Otherwise AST and ALT is completely normal. It is significant when rise is 5-6 fold and associated with increase bilirubin.
Avoid high fat diet, do regular exercise and take more fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables. Hope this may help you
Let me know if you have further query Best regards Dr. Sagar
