I have been alternatively dizzy and having headaches for a week. I went to the er and non contrast ct scan was clear. Labs all in normal range. I am a 48 year old female, epileptic take tegretol er capsules (levels are good). I have been taking tegretol products for 31 years, and have not had a seizure for 16 years. Could menapause be bringing about severe side effects?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a history of epileptic attacks but since you have all the lab reports normal, it could be due to menopausal phase. You can get EEG, MRI or CT to confirm its not epilepsy that is causing you discomfort. Dizziness with headache could be migraine or Vertigo. Get clinically examined by an ENT to confirm vertigo or migraine so that you can be treated at the earliest. If diabetic or hypertensive, keep your blood glucose & blood pressure under control at all cost. You can take multi vitamin as a supplement or Evion 400, (vit E) to once a day to feel better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
