Are Naproxen And Gabapentin The Right Medication For Sciatica Nerve Pain?

I have sciatica nerve pain going down my right leg and under my right foot it is numb. The pain is severe in the right hip and under the right knee. It also hurts on each side of the front leg going down. Ice helps a little bit but I can hardly walk on it. I have been taking Naproxen and Gabapentin but I am still in a lot of pain. What can I do and is there a special Dr. I should be seeing? My family Dr. just gave me those pills. I forgot my password and there is not anything sent. I checked my spam.

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
I have read and understood your concern.Sorry to hear you are suffering from sciatic nerve pain
There are many treatment options for sciatic nerve pain. Some may include:
-Different like of pain drugs depending on pain intensity
-Myorelaxants
-Steroid shots ocassioanlly
-Physiotherapy
-Surgery in some cases.
Many of these options may be used together for better results.
Naproxen is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug well indicated in the management of such pains. Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic drug, that may also be used to treat neurologic pain and very intense pains. These drugs are well indicated in the management of such pains. However, persistenc of pain will mean that other options be tried or associated to these drugs.
I will advise you try the following:
-Continue with drugs as prescribed by your Doctor
-Hire the services of a Physiotherapist
If pains persist, you see a Rheumatologist or a Neurosurgeon for evaluation and other treatment options.
Hope this will help. You may write back if more concerns
Wish you good health
