5 Year Old Son, Pain In Head, Bump On Lower Right Side Of Hair Line After Hitting Head. Should I Meet A Doctor?
my grandson is 5 years old and last night he slipped and hit his head on the bed frame, He cried a little but than was ok, I suggested putting ice on it but He didn't want to. He seemed fine after that and stayed awake for a couple hours before going to bed. I worked all day and when I got home I asked him how his head was and He said it still hurts and He has a large bump on the lower right side by the hair line, about the size of a half dollar. Should we use ice now or seek medical attention.
For the bump, ice pack application is suggested and it helps to decrease the pain and swelling.
For pain, I suggest an oral analgesic like Tylenol or ibuprofen in prescribed dose.
Observe for danger symptoms and signs like vomitings, drowsiness, altered sensorium, fits, bleeding from nose and ears, and decreased limb movements and if you find any consult emergency immediately.
Consult the pediatrician for examination to look for any abnormal signs and for medication.
Probably the child has received only superficial head injuries. Pain and swelling should subside in a week or so with some anti inflammatory analgesic drugs.
About 24 hours are elapsed after injury and since the child has not shown any sign of internal damage to the brain or compression like severe headache, vomiting, convulsions or unconsciousness. so there is least possibility of adverse outcome.
Ice can be used for the hematomas.
Hope the query is answered.
Thanks Please watch for maximum 48 hours for any above mentioned sign and symptoms to be sure enough.
