3 Year Old With A Bump On The Head After Being Hit. How Long Will It Take To Go Away?

My 3-year-old daughter bumped her head on the end of a bar sticking out at the playground. It wasn't sharp, but it was very hard and she had a lump. A few days later, she fell off her scooter and bumped the same area. The bruise persisted for a bit more than a week, but a small lump is still there, more than 2 months later. She doesn't complain of pain there, and if you give it a gently prod it doesn't bother her, but I'm concerned that it doesn't seem to be going away. The lump is about dime size. It isn't noticeable when you look at her, but when you run your fingers across her forehead, you can feel it. Is it normal for lumps to take this long to go away?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

The bump on her head is due to an organized hematoma which is known as contusion.

This type of bumps will take time to subside like weeks to months together.

As there is no pain and discomfort to the child, nothing to worry.

You can discuss regarding the bump with the pediatrician in next well child visit.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
