3 Year Old Daughter, Suffering From Lower Acute Respiratory Tract Infection. Reduced Food Intake After Medication. Suggestions?

Hi Good morning Doctor Santhosh. My daughter is 3 years old. She was suffering from lower acute respiratory tract infection. Now it is being cured. During the course of antibiotics, our pediatrician had included vizylac syrup also in the course of drugs. At that time, she was having high appetite. Now the medicine is over. So intake of food has reduced now. So I would like to know, the Vizylac syrup is used for?

Hi , I am Dr. kadhir , i am a pediatrician. Vizylac is an multivitamin syrup which has vitamin b1, b2, b6, niacin and folate . It also has lactobacillus spores. The vitamin b complex is not an appetizer, the lactobacillus it contains is used to prevent drug ( antibiotic ) induced diarrhea . The vitamin b complex has a definite use if there is a definite symptoms or sign of a particular vitamin deficiency otherwise it has no effect. Some times these multivitamins has side effects like increasing the acid secretion in stomach and can induce appetite. But it is not advised to use this drug for increasing the appetite. I would like to know other drugs given that time, to know the reasons for her increase in appetite. At the same time check your child for anemia , because iron deficiency will reduce the appetite and increase in food intake will be the first sign of iron supplementation. thank you for your consultation.
