18 Year Old Taking Epilim And Frolic Acid For Migraines. Have Dry Mouth And Weakness. Is This The Proper Medication?
Dear Dr, My 18 year old daughter has been getting migraines very often and have been given Epilim and frolic acid. Please enlighten me if she can continue as she feels very weak and her mouth feels dry whenever she takes it. Please inform me of any medicine that can cure her migraine as she can get it 3 times a week. Thank you. Isha
Migraine medication can be abortive (treat the present migraine) or preventative. Preventative medication is prescribed if a person has 2 or more migraines a month with disability lasting 3 or more days, failure or adverse effects of the abortive medications, use of abortive medications more than 2 times a week and uncommon migraine conditions.
With 3 migraines a week , your daughter would definately qualify for preventative medications. Sodium valproate (epilim) is one of the commonly used preventative medications , but they are alot of others. If she is unable to tolerate the side effects, it may be best to speak to her doctor.
He or she can change it to another preventative medication the she may be able to tolerate better
If your daughter can identify what triggers her migraines then she can avoid these and hopefully decrease the frequency of the attacks.
Hope this helps
