Brief Answer:
Your Hiv risk is negligible .

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again to ASK A DOCTOR through HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
First of all, there is every chance for your male partner to be uninfected with HIV. Then your HIV risk is 'NIL'.
Suppose, in case, If he has been considered as infected already, then the Transmission of HIV through kissing is negligible as per CDC, XXXXXXX (https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/risk/estimates/riskbehaviors.html)
Human saliva contans an enzyme called as Lysozyme, which is inimical to HIV.. So viral concentration present in saliva is isnsufficient to cause a new infection. But when it gets contaminated with blood due to some oral pathology, then the HIV risk cannot be totally ruled out. Then also the HIV transmission risk is negligible only.

Thanks doctor ; have you ever seen a case of hiv thru kissing in your career ? Are there any such cases ever in the past ?

I read that even if there is blood , the saliva neutralises the virus .

Do you recommend testing after an exposure that only involves kissing . Please do let me know . Thanks

Brief Answer:
Your HIV risk is negligible' with your above said activity.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
I havenot come across a single HIV case acquired through exclusively by kissing alone. Even in such case we cannot rely the history. We cannot rule out the possibility of transmission either through sharing of needle or some type of contact with infected materials like blood, semen and vaginal fluids at any point of time, in a case with the history of kissing alone.
If you had not satisfied with my answer, then you can go for HiV test to confirm status.

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are unlikely to be due to HIV infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
ARS - Acute retroviral syndrome.
It is a 'FLU' like syndrome with fever, malaise, sore throat, nasea and mild skin rashes appears 2 weeks after the entry of organism in 50-70% of people infected with HIV. But such symptoms can occur with any type of fever (umpteen number of causes) which are there even before AIDS era.. When a physician comes across a such a case, he never suspects HIV as a cause for this syndrome as a first reason unless the the patient gives a clear cut history. So it will be usually missed to be identified.
Moreover even in the presence of history and symptoms also, ARS can be confirmed only with the posituve blood test for HIV.
Just by kissing, anybody can get an ordinary bacterial (Strepococcal) sore throat due to close intmacy or through salival contamination.
PrEP will be useful for people who cannot avoid the risk of HIV as with sex workers, MSM, I V drug users, Discordat couples (One of the couple reactive for HIV). Adverse effects are rare.

Brief Answer:
ARS the symptoms usually not very severe

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcomeback.
Usually majority will have low grade fever during Acute retroviral syndrome. Rarely (depending upon the immunity of the individual, virulence of the organisms and the uantity of the inoculum), it can cause severe symptoms also.
It is not abolutely true that in spite of blood contamination, saliva makes it as noninfectious. The effect of lyzozyme is relatively very mild, not always a completele lethal ti virus.
