Question: sir i am diagnosed with diabetes type 2 10 days back. it was shocking for me because i was not in any kind of problem or any major symptoms which i know about diabetes. In a random blood sugar test my reading were 230 mg/dl, and in fasting blood sugar war 250 , and hbA1c test was 9.7. it was seriously high and i was in shock. In my family history my father was diabetic in late 50s of his age and heart patient, but my age is 32 right now, and i am not over weight(63kg 5 feet 7in height). Also no obesity type problem.
Doctor give me medicines one 500 mg metformin daily at night and one Atrovastatin 10mg in morning( for cholesterol). After these medicines and a complete change in my diet i am now at a range of 100 to 160 mg/dl (pre and post meal) blood sugar level. Eliminating or taking very very less carbohydrates and mostly i am taking protiens and vegetables. i have attached my test report kindly review that and i have some questions i hope i will receive all answers.
1) Is it possible for me in near future that i will stop medicines and with only diet changes can manage my blood sugar?
2) As per my reports kindly tell me if there is any thing else serious other then blood sugar, specially in urine analysis.
3) most important thing is i know diabetes is a serious and on going disease with many complications. if i will keep my blood sugar under control still these complications will happen with me? or how can i be sure after as much blood sugar my organs are working properly. Even i was very much normal and i visit doctor just as a random test. but as i dont know from how many year i am having this disease and how much loss have already done?
4) does stress only can cause diabetes ? because i was in high level of stress some years back. like 4 years back.

Brief Answer:
About Diabetes treatment:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
Well, type 2 Diabetes has a genetical predisposition but usually it is diagnosed before 40-ies in obese patients.
In your case, even though you are not considered obese, abdominal fat should be evaluated, if present, diet and physical activity may be the only treatment.
The fact that it is contolled now with a very low dose of metformine and diet, it means that in a near future ( when the abdominal fat will be removed), even metformine can be cut off.
You did not mention when did you check the blood sugar for the last time ( before this high level). It takes 5 year for Diabetes to cause organ damages.
So if you had a normal blood sugar a year ago, there is no chance for having chronic complications now.
If you did not mention the blood sugar before, than you should check microalbuminuria ( for renal damages), see an ophtalmologist (for rethynopathia) and an abdominal ultrasound for liver steatosis.
If you keep blood sugar within the normal limits during your life, the chance for complications is almost 0.
In your exams reports there is nothing else to worry except of lipids and blood sugar.
So continue with diet and physical activity and your physician will suggest to cut off metformin soon.
Hope the information will help.
Best wishes.

i dont have belly fat or its very less. i was never over weight also.
my last blood sugar test was 5 years back. i was on border line in a random test. but in fasting i was below 100 mg/dl . and hbA1c was also little bit more the 6. But as i was not eating sweats and also taking little care , thats why i have never tested . that i know my biggest mistake.
doctor i have one question that if i dont have any symptom still it is possible to have damaged organs? or some other kind of serious problem?
the only problem that i felt sometimes is muscle twitching during stressed conditions. I was in a heavy stress some years back. Thats why doctor told me the reason is only stress.
i was taking multivitamin centrum (for men) before diabetes medicines , can i start that again?
and also tell me you have seen my reports, my cholestrol is also high, if i eat less carbs the food will be more fatty how i can manage that?

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Yes, there may be organ damages even if you do not have symptoms.
If your diet is appropriate there is no need for multivitamins.
Your dietitian will be able to formulate a diet that contains 50- 60% carbs, 20% fat and 20-30 proteins.
It is a well equilibrated one and you will not need extra supplements.

Diabetes complcations:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Chronic complications of Diabetes has no symptoms in their early stages.
Thar is why a check up is done once a year even if you do not have symptoms.
Urine is normal, but you need to screen for microalbuminuria, that is a specific test for Diabetes damages in kidney.
