I Have Had Pain After Every Meal And Usually Diarrhea
Mostly a viral infection.
Thanks for using Healthcare magic.
I have read your query &understood your concern.
* Your symptom strongly suggests bacterial or viral infection of gut...(gastroenteritis )specially starting after eating contaminated food....The diarrhea is watery....pains after eating &is through out abdomen. It is mostly in acute form.Viral infection is mostly self controlled,&is eased with home care while bacterial infection needs medicines.
- If you have mucus, tinge of blood in stools making it slippery /It is preceded by colicy pain &it may linger for a long time...it is likely to be Amoebic....again starts after contaminated water or food. Needs medication.
*Heart burn is a symptom of hyperacidity due to irritated mucus membrane of stomach
-Start with home care..eating bland&easily digested food ./Drinking lot of clean water with sugar&pinch of salt or ORS powder.
-In case there is no relief in 8 days /symptoms increase/there are signs of dehydration...you should consult your doctor for further evaluation &specific treatment.
I hope that answers your query.Any follow up query is welcome.
Wait for appointment only if you are relieved with the medicines suggested.
Hi Hjpowers 07,
Thank you for the additional information.
Your symptom remaining after suffering of 8-10 days...suggests the cause to be bacterial, with involvement of gastric/duodenal
(begining of small intestine) mucus membrane involvement.
* I would suggest following additions to previous home care tips-
-Keep on taking bland food...cold & half diluted milk would help, should be taken 1cup every 2 hours.Do not avoid oral intake because of the pain, empty stomach is likely to enhance pain. Eating smooth boiled rice -half a cup ,with salt to taste is allowed when you get hungry.
Water intake with sugar&salt in given proportion is a must.
-Add over the counter antacid pill
Ranitidin 150 mg three times a day(8 hourly)&Tab Synalgesic only half pill..if the pain is too much.
-Avoid fasting, tea or coffee, alcohol
& smoking .
psychological tension/stress should be avoided.
* Try these for only two more days...if there is relief well &good ..wait for the doctor's appointment you have,
-But if there is no relief or if the pain increases, or there are signs of dehydration...you should either prepone the appointment or go to ER for earlier specific treatment with antibiotics, fluid replacement if needful ( after direct physical examination &needful investigations by a physician/ gastroenterologist)
I hope that helps you.Any follow up query is welcome.
