Question: Hi doctor..

my 2 yr old daughter hit her leg while climbing the sofa.. she cried immediately and when I inspected her toes there was small bleeding in two of her toe nails... she cried as she placed her foot on floor.. n then she slept.. next morning we noticed her limping so we correlated that the limp was due to injury... i called her pediatrician she said that usually for 10 days v wait and watch the child n take Crocin if it pains.. I checked for pain but she didn't have any... from the third day I could notice limping on and off.. on 6th day I took her back to her doc, she said the mild limp may be due to something in the hip or knee and suggested an ortho opinion.. we went to ortho he could not notice the limp but when I said I see a difference like her hips are swinging more, he said it might be due to developmental changes like hip dyslypsia as I said there is uneven skin fold in both thighs and asked us to go for pelvic n hip x ray... we did n they were clear and I'm attaching the report for your perusal.. she is still mildly limping.. she is active as usual and no fever... before 3 days of the trauma v got her vaccinated for hepatitis a and typhoid ..there is a possibility that I missed to notice her limp after vaccine till the accident... now her pediatrician says to wait for a week n it ll resolve on its own.. could you please tell me what could be the reason of mild limp which is very hard to notice and that too on and off.. my family suggests that it could be psychological and she is doing it even after the injury became fine..

Brief Answer:
You can wait few more weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns ( I couldn’t see attachment!!)
Mild limping probably be due to the pain she experiencing following the trauma and vaccination.
Hip dyplasia will not manifest all of a sudden and it is very unlikely.
Kids tend to follow the gait even after complete healing and it will settle in couple of weeks. It is partly psychological and nothing much to worry about it.
You can wait for two more weeks and I’m sure that she will be back in good shape soon.
Wishing all the best.
Thanks.

Thank you for your response... the radiologist took hip n pelvis scan for the second time stating that the previous image wasn't clear due to the diaper... now I'm worried about the radiation exposure... yest she stopped limping... did I put her through unnecessary radiation exposure? Before 4 months she had a chest and abdomen x ray due to a missing battery which also came out clear... in her 2 yrs of life she has had a total of 6 X-rays.. one chest and one abdomen when she was 20 months old and 2 hip n pelvis due to the negligence of the radiologist.. please let me know if this exposure has increased her cancer risk ??

Brief Answer:
Better to avoid unwanted X-rays

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow up!
Plain X-ray is not that much harmful. You can see kids undergoing multiple CT scans which has got hundred times radiation exposure compared to X-rays.
However it is better to avoid unwanted X-rays.
As of now nothing much to worry about cancer!!
Wishing all the best.
Thanks
