Will Movement Of Risible Muscles While Taking Botox Have A Bad Effect?

default
Posted on Wed, 31 Dec 2014
Question: I did Botox on my jaw today. The doctor told me to bite down when he made the injection. But I smiled lightly during the injection. I didn't loosen my masseter, but I think my risible muscles was moved when I smiled. Will it affect the results of the Botox? Btw, the doctor didn't say anything when I did this. I am a little worried about the effect.
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Change of expression has got no relationship with the result. Relax!!!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to forum.

I can understand your concern for Botox injection at jaw region and related facial expressions during injection.

After interpreting the query with best diligence let me reassure you fully that the change of facial expression would not have any effect on the result of the injection.

To tell you simply- botox injections are given at a particular point which is quite specific for a particular dynamic line. It is more or less always fixed.

We ask the person undergoing the botox to make certain expressions only to see the prominence of the muscles as well to relax the entry of needle. Changing of facial expression has got no direct relation with the results. That's why your treating doctor didn't say anything regarding this point.

To reassure you more, the botox units are water based injection and spreads to surrounding 1 to 2 centimeter of entry point. So it relaxes the muscle fiber of surrounding 1-2 cm area. Even if there is difference of few millimeters of entry point by changing the expression then also there is no difference in the results.

So I reassure you fully that the change of expression has got no relationship with the result. As you have gone for the botox injection today so I further suggest you to do regular relaxing and contacting of the injected muscle for 24 hours. It helps in spreading of the botox to its fullest in the muscle fibers giving you best results.

I hope this information will help you. I will be glad to guide you any further.

Thanks Dr! One more question. I touched my injection part with uncleaned hand 1-2 hours later after the Botox. Is any risk for the infection of injection wound?

Thanks a lot!

Brief Answer:
You are not at all at any risk of infection due to touching the site after 1-2 hours.

Detailed Answer:
Dear young lady,

Thanks a lot for your further follow up.

Regarding touching of injection site after 1-2 hours: You are not at all at any risk of infection due to the same. It is due to the fact that the injection is given by very fine needle of 30 gauze which is the thinnest of needle. It creates very fine entry point which do not permit entry of any bacteria or micro-organism through the entry point.

Secondly even if it is thinnest of the entry point then also it is sealed off by our clotting mechanism of body within few minutes. It is further supported by good immune system of our body. So touching the injection site after 1-2 hour has got no impact of infection.

Even then this doesn't mean that you should touch the area freely. I suggest to touch the area minimally for next 48 hours.

I further suggest you to not massage or apply any cosmetics around the injection site for 48-72 hours as it cause diffusion of the botox to the surrounding area and therefore reduced effect.

Do not go for any parlor procedures like facials for next 7-14 days for the same reason explained above.

I hope this information will help you. I will be glad to guide you any further.
