Hello XXXX,
I can understand your concern.

Yes,it is correct. Levothyroxine(it is hormone) is used to treat Hypothyroidism where thyroid gland does not produce enough hormone.Dosage depends upon levels of thyroid hormones in your body and age.Mostly it starts with low dosage.
You need not worry.
I would suggest you take this medication as per your doctor advise and instructions.

Levothyroxine treats Hypothyroidism where the thyroid does not produce enough hormone, and the Levothyroxine is a replacement hormone. The test showed that my hormone level was LOW. The Doctor ordered less Levothyroxine. This seems to be opposite to what would be needed. Was taking one 25 mcg tab daily and now 1/2 tab Monday through Friday and 1 tab Saturday and Sunday. Explain why Less Levothyroxine would replace lower hormone level.

Brief Answer:
Low dose also lowers hormonal level.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
I can understand your concern.

According your medication it indicates your taking treatment for hypothyroidism.

Naturally TSH secreats by pituitary gland and stimulus levels of T3 and T4 and In turn T3 and T4 exert feed back on TSH.When T3 and T4 increse TSH will decrease. When T3 and T4 decrease TSH will increase.
In hypothyroidism TSH hormonal levels is increased and T3 , T4 levels are decreased or normal.

Now come to treatment.
For hypothyroisdism doctor priscribe levothyroxin, dosage(intial dose would be 12.5 to 50 mcg) depends upon age of patient and level of TSH.Levothyroxine acts by increase the level of T4 which in turn decrease the level of TSH.Doctor can increase dose or decrease dose gradually depends upon patient response and symptoms.

You have mentioned your hormonal level is low I am not sure whether you are talking about low T3 and T4 or TSH(Low level after treatment). If you have reports kindly upload reports hence I can help you easily.
Once treatment starts with levothyroxine TSH levels starts decline and T3 ,T4 will improve.
If your TSH levels decrese to normal or below normal then docor would decrease the dosage of medication gradually.
In your case I am not sure Why doctor decrease your dose.
If it is low dose also levothyroxine would do it work by decreasing hormonal level.

I would suggest you may go ahead with stand in doctor's instructions.

If you have any query I will be happy to help you.
Thank you.
