What Is The Treatment For Brain Tumor Type ATRT?
Question: A 11 years Boy diagnosed with Brain Tumor type ATRT, as per Biopsy report this is WHO grade - IV. Any suggested treatment possible in Kolkata.

I have gone through the attached reports but could not get anything beyond page 6. Has he received any treatment after the MRI at Westbank?
There is no established standard treatment for children with central nervous system (CNS) atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT). Given the highly aggressive nature of the tumor, most patients have been treated with intensive multimodal therapy including surgery, Radiation and chemotherapy. With this, 2 year survival probability is around 70% and there are long term survivors also.
But I must say that because of the rarity of the disease, the best treatment protocol is not established anywhere in the world.
All these treatment are possible at Kolkata, but only in selected centers.

Thanks for your advice.
Presently he is under treatment in Westbank Hospital, Radiation is on going and till date 14 seating already done out of 33 as advised by the Doctor.
In this situation is Chemotherapy require or not, this types of different advises I have came to know from doctors. If the best treatment protocol is not established any where in world then is chemo at all justified to prescribe for a 11 years boy. Is any suitable Chemo available as per medical guide?
Sir, I have already consult with some doctors but I have been confused as all the Doctors advise is different.
Hope I have cleared my situation to you and request you give your valuable advice in this regards also which center may suitable for this treatment.

Okay. Though we do not which is the best regime of chemo, we have some guidance as per published studies. It is clear that without chemo they fare very poorly. hence at least some chemo is required.
If you come to me, I can share with you the studies published on this tumor and then you can decide on what to do.

In your 1 st advice you have told that , Radiation and chemotherapy. With this, 2 year survival probability is around 70% and there are long term survivors also. By this any longtime survival possible & if possible how?
Presently the situation is like that this may relapse / reoccur, :
1. NIHMAN Doctors clearly told that no further surgery possible in that area.
2. Radiation and chemotherapy also applied to a patient for only one time.
If the condition reoccurs what will be the treatment?
After completion of recommended treatment any Palliative treatment will be possible for my son.
After completion of Radiation and chemotherapy or in this type of patient may treat in Ayurvedic or Homeopathy?

Many reports have shown long term survivors but all received chemo.
RT can be given one time only but chemo can be repeated depending on the scenario. However, first attempt is curative attempt and second onwards usually palliative.
If it recurs then mostly palliative care, ie, treating symptoms and providing comfort.
There is no published data of ayurvedic or homeo treatment, there are only claims. So I can't comment on these.
