Question: Hi my doctor says my CT Scam shows i have Diverticulosis. What is that? thanks, XXXX

Diverticulosis means that there are small pouches have developed in the digestive tract. This is most common in the large intestines, also called colon. It is a common finding in elderly above 60years old and thought t be caused by a diet low in fiber. They generally do not cause any symptoms but, when they get infected or inflamed, pain is the main presenting symptom. If no complication like infection or bleeding has set in, treatment consist mainly in eating a healthy and fiber rich diet. If there is any complication like an infection or inflammation, your doctor would manage accordingly.
