What Happens To One's Psyche After A Traumatic Life-death Experience?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I'm wondering about the psychology involved with XXXXXXX Jenner when he continues to talk on his cellphone after being in an accident in which a woman died. Is that denial ? Narcissism? Arrogance? From a psychological viewpoint, how is this behavior explained?

Brief Answer:
many possible explanations

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question
When something as traumatic as a death occurs unexpectedly people react in very different ways. Some people shut down and become almost unresponsive. Some people cry uncontrollably. Some react out of fear and do things like talking on the phone to try and reach someone that may be able to calm them down. It is also possible that the traits you mentioned could be part of this as well but it is impossible to know exactly without knowing the personality of the person involved.
With narcissism people have no emotional connection with other people and act as if the world revolves around them. Arrogance is also a personality trait that may manifest in someone being unable to feel compassion for another person. Hard to know what is going on with someone without either knowing them well or doing an extensive psychological exam on them.
