How To Tackle Behavioral Issue In 5 Year Old?

i have a 5 year old nephew, he doesn t do simple things, can t read, doesn t no how to tie shows, count, read, write, say his abc s. He sits there and spins in circles, he has bad temper tantrums, he shakes really bad when he gets mad. He also, plays with his hands when he gets mad. His speach is not the best, he can t talk really, he can t say alot of words, and most of the time he needs to repeat himself so we can no what he says. He can t even color in the lines, he also needs help to get dressed, and most of the time he puts his shoes on the wrong feet. He also goes and sits there and stares off into space, and when you talk to him he doesn t even hear you some of the times. Could you tell me if these are the signs of autism?

Hi,

As per the findings that you are telling, it seems like that your nephew might be on the spectrum. Autism is not a definite one point diagnosis. It's called ASD, autism spectrum disorder which means its a spectrum on which a child falls.

So in his case, it would always be better sooner you start the supportive treatment for him as the sooner you start better are the results.Diagnosing the exactness of ASD requires the physical examination and observation of the case, so it is advisable that you should see a paediatrician in person.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Gaurav Nigam, Pediatrician
