Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: Hello,
I underwent a thyroid ultrasound and was found to have multiple nodules and a 1.5cm and one 2.0 cm lypmph node to right neck. I had a biopsy of one of the nodules that was the largest one about 2 years ago and it was benign. Is this something suspicious. I last had an ultrasound last year and no lymph nodes were noted.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry, close follow up is recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
Thyroid nodules are quite common in the population, being present in about half of all adults.
Once a biopsy is read as benign there should be a <1% risk that the nodule is actually cancerous.
So based this literature I'll suggest you not to worry about it. You are fine.
So thyroid is known to have thyroid nodules, they are usually benign. if you are euthyroid and not symptomatic then nothing is to be done , only close follow up. Regular follow up with endocrinologist would be sufficient.
Hope this helps
Take care

Why do you think I have lymph nodes on my neck that are 2cm. Is it something serious? They were found on ultrasound today. They were monitoring my thyroid nodules..

Brief Answer:
Infection can also be present with enlarged lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Welcome
In the absence of the examination it is difficult to comment. But commonly enlargement of lymph nodes is associated with infection. So infection in and around the neck, floor of the mouth may present with this.

Hope this helps
