What Does This Eosinophil Count Of 1070 Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 24 Dec 2016
Question: Hi. My eosinophils number absulute in my recent blood test was 1070. What shoul I do to normalize this number to 500 or lower?
I have constant pain on the left side of my abdomen. Got ultrasound of both ovaries and bladder- all normal. Got CT scan and there is an inflammation in the intestine was found. Will have a colonoscopy and gastroscope on Dec. 15th. Also my TSH hormones 5.65 (normal 4.50). Should I take Levothyroxin to normalize TSH hormones level? What else I should do? Should I check on intestinal parasites?
I don't have a copy of my CT scan on hand. How can I obtain it?

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Your case:
- 48 years old female
- symptoms: constant pain on the left side of abdomen
- tests run: blood count: high eosinophils; abdominal ultrasound - normal; ct-scan - inflammation of the intestines; high TSH hormone

Now, the constant pain on the left side of abdomen is suggestive of possible bowel inflammation/infection as long as other organs were ok and only inflammation of intestines were noted during ct-scan screening.

Apart colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (for which you are scheduled on December 15th); I also recommend to run:
- stool examination for ova/parasites
- stool culture

High TSH is indicating low thyroid function. However, I should know what the levels of T4 and T3 hormones were found. Can you upload a scanned copy of the blood tests results? I need to have a look at the full reports before confirming if you need to start levothyroxine treatment.

High eosinophils are indicating that there is a state of allergy in your body especially if you are having itching symptoms as well.
Intestinal parasites can cause high eosinophils. However, if you have other health problems especially when it comes to allergies, frequent coughing or colds, further allergy testing are required to determine the right cause.

To obtain a copy of your ct-scan report or other tests reports, you can ask your healthcare provider and get a copy from them. Sometimes, you can access them online, just ask your healthcare provider.

Hope it was of help.
Looking forward to have the requested additional information in.
