Question: I seen my Ortho Doc yesterday. I was wondering if you should think get a second opinion. I have severe pain in both hips and I'm super active and I'm tired of popping pain pills. So the X-ray read that I had bilateral displaying in both hips labrum tears in both as well. My MRI reads Moderate degenerative changes to both hips. The right size shows a Moderate sized superior right acetabular labral tear. On the left I had a mild tear. Also on the right I have Mild right gluteus medius tendinopathy. I also had Degenerative in my lumbar and right sacroiliac joint. When I seen him he just told me to take a break from physical activities. Really upset me. He did give me a cortisone shot in the left hip. I still have trouble putting on my shoes and sleeping cause I ache in my growing area. I'm also 37 years old Male any advice would help thanks..

Brief Answer:
normally conservative ,surgery considered if this fails

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, you should consider a second opinion but you may want to wait at least two to three weeks.

Though labral tears of the hip can be treated conservatively (rest from activities and anti inflammatory pain medications eg celebrex, naproxen, cataflam etc), many persons require surgical treatment or repair but this is normally considered if conservative treatment fails.

Since you are in so much discomfort in the groin and have problems with basic tasks due to pain, it would be best to get a second opinion if this time frame pasts and you are not improving with rest and pain medication.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
