What Does The Following Transvaginal Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Jun 2017
Question: A recent radiologist's report after a transvaginal ultrasound revealed the following findings:
Anteverted uterus measuring 8.1 x 4.4 x 5.3 cm. Endometrium measures 11 cm. There is heterongeneous hypoechoic and anechoic material within the endometrium without associated vascularity, probably related to blood products. Right ovary measures 5.3 x 3.0 x 4.1 cm with multiple cysts, the largest measuring 3.2 x 2.3 x 1.9 cm No nodularity of vascularity is appreciated. There is no free fluid in the pelvis.

I am a 48-year old non-menopausal female who has no history of endometriosis, three normal vaginal deliveries. I currently have been bleeding for 10 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Thick Endometrium

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Your Endometrial thickness is very high at 11 cms. Have you typed it wrongly instead of 11 mm?

At this Endometrial thickness and bleeding you should undergo Endometrial biopsy to rule out Endometrial cancer or atypical changes.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

I did type it in incorrectly. It is 11 mm. My uterine biopsy came back negative. I am on progesterone three times a day to stop the bleeding and it still hasn't worked. Should I be concerned or will I be okay to go to my follow up in three days?

Brief Answer:
No need to hurry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nothing will happen in next 3 days. You can stay relaxed for next 3 days. Request your doctor to insert Mirena IUD to control bleeding when you see him.
