Question: Am 36 weeks pregnant. My urine test result came back with the following: pus cells - 4-6, urine rbc - 1-2, epithelial cells - 8-10, bacteria - few. Can you please let me know if this report is normal? Or any medication is required?

Brief Answer:
Indicative of a urinary tract infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
This report is not normal.
It is indicative of a urinary tract infection.
Yes, medication is needed.
You need antibiotics for the infection.
But the antibiotics cannot be prescribed based on this particular urine report.
It needs urine culture testing further.
That will show what particular bacteria is causing the infection, and what antibiotic should be given to treat it properly.
So next, please get urine culture done, and you can upload the report, I can suggest the medication then.
MEanwhile, drink lots of water.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
What symptoms do you have ?
What is your age and gender please ?

Brief Answer:
Yes, for pregnant women, treatment is essential, even if no symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Then it becomes all the more important for you.
IN absence of symptoms, presence of bacteria in urine is called asymptomatic bacteriuria.
It is dangerous in pregnancy, particularly around 36 weeks, as it can lead to preterm labour if untreated.
So please get a urine culture test at the earliest and start antibiotics.
Take care.
