RPR AB TITRE Non reactive
T.pallidum IgG Reactive

Clinical Notes :
Syphilis Confirmatory Serology(referred)

2nd test
VDRL Reactive 1
TPPA Reactive
FTA-ABS Reactive

Syphilis Confirm comment:
These results indicate either past or present treponemal infection.

I have had no noticeable symptoms either now or over the last few years the Dr gave me a shot of penicillin one in each cheek and a months course of Doxycyline 100g twice a day yesterday. He said I may have had syphilis in the past and any antibiotic I took may have treated it or I have syphilis now and that's all he told me . I m very anxious because the more you read on the net the more doom and gloom the desease becomes in my head and Im not sure what these results actually mean. Or what stage the desease is at .I need to tell my wife as well which is making me extremely agitated and anxious as I have had past indesgretions Thank you for your time.CXXXX

Brief Answer:
Please, relax. There is no major red flag here!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these results findings and all the inconveniences this has caused you. Syphilis in most cases is silent and only get diagnosed when routine tests are done for other conditions. Also, many antibiotics are able to treat syphilis and therefore, taking an antibiotic for a cough may actually treat a syphilis infection that was never known. There is nothing to be too scared about at this time.

The internet can provide helpful tips but in some cases is way over the board and scares persons. Your syphilis is primary as there are no skin lesions which are the stigmata of secondary syphilis or neurological symptoms that are suggestive of tertiary syphilis.

Unfortunately, this test cannot tell whether it is an active infection or a past infection. However, what matters is the fact that you have been diagnosed and well treated. I will also advise that you get your partner tested and treated if need be.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thank you for your reply and reassurance. I have been under a lot of stress have not slept just human nature to stress. The Dr I saw said I could have theoretically have gotten the desease from my first sexual encounter 23 yrs ago and was treated as you have mentioned by taking antibiotics for a cough. Do blood tests always show positive once syphilis has been treated?

Brief Answer:
Not always..but some last for very long time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The test is not always positive. Tends to fade over time and others last for longer periods. This is an easily treatable condition and there is really no reason why you should be too worried about it.

I wish you well. Remember, am always here to address any concerns you may have.
