What Does The Chest X-ray Report Indicate?

Question: I just had a chest xray and the findings were "left lower lobe consolidation and moderate pleural effusion is noted. Bilateral prominent bronchovascular makings. Upper lung fields are essentially normal." I have some shortness of breath and a little pain at lower left rib cage others I am fine.

Is this serious and what is the treatment?

In my opinion, you should consult pulmonologist and first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Left lower lobe consolidation with moderate pleural effusion is mostly seen in infective conditions like bacterial pneumonia, tuberculosis etc. So you need sputum examination for TB bacilli and culture and sensitivity to isolate the causative organism. You may also need aspiration of pleural fluid to find out the causative organism.
So better to consult pulmonologist and discuss all this, as without proper treatment this can lead to worsening of underlying lung infection.
