Brief Answer:
Possible episodes of minute bleeding in intestine or constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern for GI symptom of black stool
1) Dark black stool with typical smell indicate minute episodes of bleeding in either small intestine or start part of large intestine. This blood become black colored due to chemical reaction inside bowel.
2) Other possibility for dark colored stool is constipation in which dark color of stool is due to more absorption of water from stool by intestine.
3) If you are experiencing this symptoms repeatedly then it is recommended for you to undergo a colonoscopy to find out source for this.
4) Also, you must start stool softener or laxative to prevent constipation.
