What Does My Ultra Sound Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Oct 2014
Question: Good Afternoon. I had ultrasound performed on my kidney a few weeks ago to help with abdominal pain, bloating, issues. Results were ~ All other organs normal, no intrahepatic or extra hepatic biliary ductal dilatation. common bile duct 6mm. There is a solitary hyper echoic 5mm focus in the mid pole the right kidney probably representing a tiny non obstructing calculus. Left kidney contains several hyper echoic foci but no calietasis or hydronephrosis. Result ~ probable non obstructing bilateral kidney stones. Have doc appt on Friday but really want to post pone for a while. Anything for me to worry about with the size of stone if I pass it naturally or should I keep doc appt for now?

Brief Answer:
Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

No reason to be worried. Please note that many people has kidney stones and do not know about it. Its because about 50% of stones can be passed without any symptoms. 5 mm is small enough to get passed without urologist intervention. However it is individual and depends of the possible ureter narrow areas.
The other thing is that you never know when you will pass it. It may happen and you wont be able to notice it. This is the most optimistic possibility. It may also give mild pain or if the stone will stuck, strong pain.
So in conclusion, no need to worry. Just start increased mineral water intake, avoid chocolate, dock, spinach intake. Start Magnesium supplementation. Physical activity like jogging can help with stone passing as well.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
